AusCycling brings bike education to the classroom with AusBike Digital

Aug 23, 2024

AusCycling is bringing bike education to classrooms across Australia with the launch of its new program, AusBike Digital.

Developed by AusCycling, Playbk Sports, and the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, AusBike Digital is an interactive eLearning program that covers the basics of bike riding, as well as teaching students essential bike skills and safety and social awareness from the classroom.

Aligned with ACARA State and National Curriculum Standards, AusBike Digital features engaging learning content through videos, quizzes, and at-home activities, aimed at students between 8-12 years old.

AusBike Digital complements AusCycling’s practical on-bike program AusBike, which launched last year and is backed by the Australian Government, through the Australian Sports Commission.

Schools across South Australia were some of the very first to access AusBike Digital, thanks to the Government of South Australia.

Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing Katrine Hildyard MP said it is important to support the development and roll-out of the program across the state.

“Feeling and being confident and safe riding a bike helps kids to be active and connected and able to explore their local community,” Minister Hildyard said.

"We want as many young people as possible to experience the lovely feeling that comes with knowing how to ride a bike, be active, enjoy time outdoors and the many benefits of doing so.

"I am really grateful to AusCycling for this important program and know that it will make a difference to kids now and throughout their lives."

AusCycling Executive General Manager Clubs and Community Enhancement Nikki Horton said AusBike Digital was the next evolution of AusCycling’s national bike education program.

“We are thrilled to bring AusBike Digital to schools across Australia and continue to help teach students a skill for life. AusBike Digital continues our mission to get more kids across Australia enjoying a life of freedom and adventure on two wheels.”

“AusBike Digital is a unique program that uses immersive classroom activities aligned with curriculum standards, encompassing the fundamental aspects of bike education, in a fun and interactive manner.

“Since launching 12 months ago, more than 30,000 kids across Australia have experienced AusBike through a range of our practical programs and we look forward to continuing to grow that number into the future with AusBike Digital.”

For teachers, AusBike Digital adapts to various teaching styles, supporting both whole-class and one-on-one learning. It's also completely free for Australian school teachers and parents.
