AusBike celebrates two years of getting kids on bikes

AusBike has quickly become one of the country’s most successful grassroots cycling programs, giving children aged 5 to 12 the skills and confidence to ride safely through fun, practical activities.

In just two years, AusBike has already reached more than 50,000 participants across every state and territory (except the ACT), working with schools, families and communities to get kids back on bikes.

The program’s success has been underpinned by strong partnerships with government agencies including Transport WA’s Your Move, Transport for NSW, and South Australia’s Active State Collaboration Program.

The program has received international acclaim, winning the prestigious inaugural UCI Cycling for All Award in Abu Dhabi last year.

Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of eight full-time and 20 casual AusCycling staff deliver the program nationwide.

The initiative has also gained a boost from some of Australia’s biggest names in cycling, with ambassadors 2024 Paris Olympic Gold medalist Saya Sakakibara and 2020 Tokyo Olympic champion Logan Martin helping inspire the next generation.

AusCycling CEO Marne Fecher said the program’s success comes down to a simple formula.

 “Kids love bikes.

"What AusBike does is give them the skills and encouragement to ride safely and confidently, setting them up for a lifetime of riding,” she said.
